MEET
MICHAEL S. GOLDSTEIN

Michael S. Goldstein, President of the firm, began his legal career in labor law in the area of labor arbitration, and by writing municipal legislation while Assistant Law Director and Prosecutor for a Northeast Ohio municipality. Later, as Senior Attorney in the Legal Services Department of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, where he practiced for nine years, Mr. Goldstein represented the employer in Workers' Compensation defense, Unemployment Compensation defense, personal injury defense, property damage (both plaintiff and defense), real estate law, and contract matters. Since 1987 he has represented over 25 types of businesses and industries, focusing on defense of Ohio Workers' Compensation claims, both before the Industrial Commission and in court.

Mr. Goldstein consults with management of nationally and locally based large and small companies doing business throughout Ohio, to aid in development of the employers' safety and injury prevention plans, and of their Workers' Compensation defense philosophies. He interacts with the employers' in-house safety, risk management, human resources, legal, and medical personnel. Where an employer has retained an outside actuarial firm or third party administrator (TPA), Mr. Goldstein works with the TPA to implement problem-solving case management strategies designed to reduce the employers' liability for injuries and occupational diseases incurred by their workers.

A graduate of Michigan State University and Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Mr. Goldstein has been admitted to practice in all State of Ohio courts since 1974, as well as in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is active in several business associations, and is presently a Vice President of the Beachwood, Ohio Chamber of Commerce. He is an active Rotarian. Mr. Goldstein has served on the Workers' Compensation Committee of the Cuyahoga County Bar Association and is an active member of the Cleveland Bar Association. He is an officer in the Naval Reserve, and is an instrument-rated private pilot.
